Dog De-Matting in Southwest Ranches

Found a knot your brush won’t get through? You don’t have to keep tugging at it. Coco’s checks matted coats at your Southwest Ranches home and talks you through what can be handled comfortably. De-matting is usually added to a grooming package. If the tangles look extensive, or you need a separate visit, call us first so we can discuss the right appointment.

Please mention matting when you book. Photos can help us plan, but the groomer needs to feel the coat before confirming the work and price.

What de-matting adds to a grooming visit

A few loose tangles and a coat that’s felted close to the skin are very different jobs. We start by finding out which one we’re dealing with. Then we’ll explain whether extra coat work makes sense or whether a shorter haircut would be the kinder choice.

What’s included in the assessment and coat work

    • A hands-on check of the tangled areas and the coat underneath.
    • A discussion of how much length can reasonably be kept.
    • Extra detangling, products and brushing where the coat can be worked through comfortably.
    • Trimming of areas that can't reasonably be untangled, with your agreement.
    • Confirmation of the grooming package and any extra charge before work begins.

Your chosen grooming package covers its own bath and hygiene care. This add-on covers the extra work that matting can require; it doesn’t automatically include a full-body haircut.

Tell us what you’re finding at home

When was the last bath, brush-out or haircut? Where are the knots, and can you get a comb through the rest of the coat? Send a clear photo of the problem area and one of the whole dog if you can. You don’t need to work the knots out before we arrive.

    De-matting starts at $25

Published range:Our published add-on range is $25–$35. More extensive, tight or time-consuming matting can cost more.

How we price the work:This charge is added to the grooming package. The size of your dog matters, but so do the number of mats, how close they sit to the skin and how much work the coat will comfortably allow. If a body haircut is needed, we’ll also confirm the appropriate package.

A photograph can help with planning. It can’t tell us how tight every knot feels underneath, so the final assessment happens in person. We discuss the price before grooming begins.

Separate visit:De-matting can sometimes be arranged as a separate appointment. Call us to describe the coat and ask for a consultation and quote; the add-on starting price isn’t a standalone-visit quote.

Calculator clarification:Use our pricing calculator to estimate the grooming package, then call us about the matting. The calculator can’t assess the coat.

What Pet Owners Say About Coco’s

These reviews come from Coco’s customers on Google.

    What happens in the van

The first decision isn’t which brush to pick up. It’s whether the coat can be worked through comfortably and what your dog needs us to leave alone.

    1. Tell us the coat's history

Show us the areas you've noticed and tell us about recent grooming, skin concerns or any discomfort when your dog is brushed.

    2. Check beneath the surface

We feel through the coat to assess the tightness and extent of the matting before deciding how to proceed.

    3. Agree on the approach

We explain what can reasonably be untangled, what may need trimming, the package and the price.

    4. Work on manageable areas

Where suitable, we use extra products and careful coat work to loosen tangles. Keeping every inch of hair isn't worth pulling at a coat your dog can't comfortably tolerate.

    5. Complete the right groom

The bath, drying and any agreed haircut follow the plan for the coat we've assessed. A tightly matted coat needs that decision before bathing.

    6. Talk through upkeep

At handover, we'll point out the areas that need attention between appointments and discuss a routine suited to your dog's coat.

Keeping the length starts with checking underneath

We understand wanting to keep a fluffy coat. The tricky part is that the top can look brushed while knots are building underneath. Tell us what length you love, and we’ll check whether the coat will allow it. If it won’t, we’ll explain why before changing the plan.

The Husky who needed much more than a brush-out

One Husky we groomed had gone about six months without a bath, and parts of his coat had formed thick, dreadlock-like mats. His owner really wanted to keep the length. Simply brushing over the top wasn’t going to get us there.

We discussed the extra work, used additional products and worked through the areas we could reasonably untangle. Some sections still had to be trimmed. That visit took around four hours, with $100 in extra coat work on top of the grooming price.

That was a particular appointment from years ago, not a standard de-matting quote or a promise that every matted coat can be saved. It shows why we need to assess the dog in front of us. Sometimes extra work can preserve more length; sometimes a shorter haircut is the more comfortable answer.

    Questions before you book

If you’re unsure how serious the tangles are, start with a call. Tell us what you’ve noticed, and we’ll help you work out what to book.

How much does dog de-matting cost?
Dog de-matting starts at $25 as an add-on to a grooming package. Our published add-on range is $25–$35, but extensive, tight or time-consuming matting can cost more. We assess the coat and discuss the price before grooming begins.
Can you keep my dog's hair long if it's matted?
Sometimes we can preserve much of the length, but that depends on how tight and widespread the mats are and what your dog can comfortably tolerate. Some areas may need trimming. We discuss that with you before changing the plan.
Does a bath get rid of mats?
A bath isn't a substitute for assessing and addressing matting. Tight mats can become more difficult to work with when wet, so we check the coat and agree on the approach before bathing.
Should I try to cut the knots out before the appointment?
Please leave tight knots for the assessment rather than cutting at them at home. If an area seems sore or your dog reacts when it's touched, let us know when you call; we may recommend veterinary advice before grooming.
Can I book de-matting without a grooming package?
A separate appointment may be possible after a consultation. Call us with your dog's breed, weight, coat history and where the matting is. Photos can help us plan, and we'll explain the booking and quote rather than applying the add-on price to a separate visit.
Is de-matting included in partial grooming?
A partial groom includes its usual brush-out and light tidy-up, but extra work on matting may carry an additional charge. A full-body haircut is a different package. The coat assessment helps us confirm which appointment your dog needs.
How long will the extra coat work take?
There isn't one reliable time for every matted coat. A few manageable tangles and widespread tight matting can require very different approaches. Tell us about the coat when booking so we can plan the visit, then confirm the work in person.
Is de-matting the same as de-shedding?
No. De-matting deals with tangled or felted hair, while de-shedding focuses on loose hair and undercoat. A dog can have both, so we assess the coat rather than assuming that one treatment will do both jobs.
Can you help with a matted cat?
Call us about the cat’s coat so we can discuss the appropriate cat grooming appointment. This page and its add-on prices are for dogs; they aren’t a quote for a cat. Our Full Cat Grooming page explains the haircut and matting-relief options we can discuss.
What if the skin underneath looks irritated?
Tell us before the visit, especially if there's soreness, broken skin or a strong reaction to touch. Grooming doesn't replace veterinary care. We'll discuss whether the area needs veterinary attention before any coat work goes ahead.

Choose the package around the coat

A Bath & Blow Dry may suit a coat that doesn’t need a haircut. Full Dog Grooming includes a body haircut when that’s the agreed approach. If what you’re seeing is loose hair rather than knots, removing loose undercoat is different work. Our guide to grooming costs in Broward County also explains why coat condition can change a quote.

We serve Southwest Ranches, Pembroke Pines, Davie, Weston, Miramar, Sunrise, Plantation and Cooper City. Check our service areas for coverage and route availability.

Let’s take a look at those tangles

Tell us your dog’s breed and weight, where the knots are and when the coat was last groomed. We’ll talk through the next step, without asking you to solve the matting before we get there.
